AMED BEACH – Bali

Just few kilometers from Tulamben is AMED, the Bali’s main east coast highway, a fairly small bay with a beach of black volcanic sand, crowded with dozen of colorful jukung ( traditional Balinese boat), local outrigger fishing canoes powered by small outboards. The reef of Amed is great for all level of divers. The dive sites are easy and relaxing. Divers can dive offer a short ” Jukung” ride or just off the beach. The underwater life so dense and gentle current offers a great number of nutrients to its crowds of fish and soft and hard coral. It’s an ideal for underwater naturalist and underwater photographers. Some area was badly affected by El Nino few years ago, particularly in the shallow areas, but recovery is progressing. Some big sponges are places of ” Laurela Siagiani” School of yellow Strip snapper are common. This place may serve as alternative sites of tulamben for beginner divers who need skill polish. There were many marine life such as Anthias, Butterfly fishes, Nudbranch, Frogfish and sometimes sharks and some big pelagic. The dive is generally relaxing.

Dives sites around Padang Bai, Bali

Dives sites Gili Tepekong and Gili mampang, located on the east coast, just in front of Candi Dasa, a 15 minute boat ride away from Padang Bai.

GILI TEPEKONG :

Canyon/Pinnacles :
On the west side of the small rocky island of tepekong the bizzare land mass strectches into the deep and forms a small canyon. You follow the inner edge of this canyon toward the west until you reach a twin peaked sea mountain : The Pinnacles In general the pinnacles are to mild current. This current can sometimes get immensely strong and earned this site nick name “The Toilet”. Lots of schooling fish are home in these currents and atract pelagic hunter like tuna’s, Barracuda and sharks. The great variety of hard and soft corals provide shelter for many reef are regular visitor to this spectacular dives sites as well as the legendary Mola-mola.
TUNNEL :

The east side side of Tepekong consist of a slope rich with hard and soft corals sponge. Between 18 and 12 meters are coral bommies under which Reef and Nurse shark can be found as well as lobster and sting rays. 18 meters which exits on the southern and ends slope we find a tunnel/cave at 18 metres which exits on the others end at 28 metres in a 50 metres vertical wall. You normally finish the dive at the north east corner of tepekong. Where you find alot of juvenile.

GILI MIMPANG,

The three rock cliffs Of Gili mimpang strecth in a line from east to west approximately 50 metres apart from each other. You start the dive on the north side of the middle island and follow along the slope heading west. About half way into your dive, very often you encounter white tip Reef Sharks patrolling the reef at the shark junction, from there you dive in the direction south west. Once the reef slope turns almost vertical we have reached the most western cliff of Gili Mimpang, you have to be carefull on this point because the currents can be very strong here and can sweep you into open sea. If you succesfully negotiated this corner you can finish your dive whilst sheltered from current on the south side of the cliffs at vertical wall covered with corals, sponge and gorgonians.

Tulamben Diving Site in Bali

a Very popular dive site. The USAT Liberty a 10,000 tonage ship lies just off the beach between nine and thirty meters. There is plenty of sea life at shallow depths with good visibility for photographs. Acces from the beach over the rocks can be difficult when there is tidal surge, so boots are recommeded.

Jemeluk Diving site In Bali

An excellent dive site for sea life. Probably the best in Bali with superb coral walls carrying a large variety of coral species. The area offers a teeming variety of fish and rates in comparison with eastern Indonesia dive site. A must if you dive in Bali

Candi Dasa Diving Site In Bali

A Very good site with plenty of sea life. The island of Tepekong, Gili Mimpang and Gili Likuan can have a strong currents and downcraft. Sometimes unpredictable with cooler temperaturs, a 3mm wetsuits is advisable. Large species of fish have occasionally been sighted.

Padang Bai Diving Site – Bali

This dive site is cooler then most others and visibility can be quite low. The waters in this area shallow and currents are slow. A good location for a refresher dive not far from the beach. This site are reached by small local outriggers. What’s more, padang bai is charming little village with water’s edge restaurants serving the freshest seafood.
