Nusa Dua Beach, the most consistent right reef break, rarely under 4 feet. Often the only place breaking for week after week, so it can get somewhat crowded. Breaks about 1 Km offshore, so hire a boat ride out and back. You can find jukung outriggers at Surfer?s Beach, reached by driving past the golf course and turning left just past the Aman Nusa Resort. Look for the surfer?s Beach sign.
There is a zippy left next to the northern channel, near the ?two islands? that give Nusa Dua its name, and a peaky right on the other side. But the real action is way, way out the back. Thick, deep water, shifty peaks wrap into a series of bowls for long rides with lots of power and variety. Steep overhead takeoffs are often followed by thick tubes that lead to deep water fat sections before another bowl wraps in and throws out further down the line. Nusa Dua beach is the Sunset Beach of Bali.
A good tip for Nusa Dua beach is to take out your big wave board even if it only looks 6 feet from the beach (it could actually be 8 to 10). Nusa Dua beach can handle 20 foot swells, but it is rarely surfed over 12 feet, so take some brave friends if you want to tackle The Big Challenge. The reef is on the edge of some very deep water, so expect to do lots of paddling against the strong currents, especially as the tide rushes in. It?s much easier on an outgoing tide. Be warned the shifty peak will clean you up sooner or later , so be prepared with a strong leg rope!
