May

Making batik is fun, probably you want to try making your own batik you can check some steps for batik processing, below :

  1. Making design on the white material
    1. Copying the original design
    2. Directly without copying before
They not used for Stamp Processing.
  2. Next Steps
    1. Covering design with wax (klowong) on the both sides
    2. Filling designs with ornaments and small dots
    3. Covering some special part of the design to get the second colour ( Sawuk)
    4. Covering some special part of the design to get white colour ( Tembokan)
For stamp processing we can directly do without making design before, for every stamp has its own designs
  3. Dyeing for the first colour
  4. Scraping some parts of of the wax to get the second colour by using a kind of knife omitting all the wak by putting the material in boiling water so that there are two colour, blue and white
  5. Covering some parts of the designs where are dots to them.
note : After fifth processing we usually put dots on the lines of the design to make them nicer.
  6. Dyeing for the second colour, we can dye this many time if we want to make some more colour
  7. Omitting all the wax by putting the material in boiling water.
  8. Washing if the material is clean than we dry this in the shade
note : The Traditional colour are usually blue, brown and light yellow. it is said to be live symbol

Shopping wise in Bali

May

Traveling in Bali is not complete until you get some thing that will remain you on this tiny little island, yes… shopping. Shopping in Bali is fantastic especially you come with US $ with you, shop till drop in Bali…babe, since US $ exchange to Rp is consider HIGH. Shopping in Bali also sometimes annoying specially when you dealing with street vendor whose keep offering things from chess, post card, pencils, boxs and more even though you keep saying ” No Thank You” , they seem don’t take that answer . So, how do you “handle this situation”? but please keep in mind The street vendors are just the Balinese people who work to earn a living. They don’t have stall, or capital to start their own business. The easiest thing to take part in tourism industry is to become street vendors or “pedagang acung”. They just need merchandise to sell, and off they go.

Here are some tips to say no to street vendor nicely :

  • Try this Indonesian expression of saying “No, thank you”, by saying “Tidak” or “Tidak, Terima Kasih.” (Pronounced “tee dhuk, tree ma ka sih”). The Idea, Why is Indonesian expression more effective? If you speak Indonesian, they will think you already lived or stayed long in Bali or Indonesia and souvenir is the last thing you need. And if you want to buy things, you will go to proper shop at another time. OR
  • There is fun when buying from street vendors. You will get good deal sometimes if you want to buy T-shirt or sarong, just use your bargaining skill. And most important thing, it helps the local people if you buy from them.

Hopefully this tips works, Good Luck !!
