Canggu Beach

than Kuta, so on small days it is often very crowded with Japanese and locals. There are two small hotels next to the break where you could stay overnight if you Pronounced ?Chahng-goo?. A 30 minute drive north of Kuta along Jalan Legian. Turn left at Kerobokan, then follow signs to ?TPA Sampah Canggu? and then left to Pererenan. A superb right peak breaks over black lava rock with two fun lefts nearby. It?s a good intermediate break between the safety of the beach breaks and the dangers of the coral reefs. The trade winds often blow side shore by mid-morning, so be there at sunrise, on a full tide for the right, or mid tide for the lefts. Canggu Beach gets more swell want try to beat the inevitable crowds. Canggu Beach only handles up to 8 or 10 feet maximum. You can find less crowded waves nearby by following the signs to the Dewata Beach hotel a few kilometers south to wards Kuta. There are also rumors of good beach break waves further north near Tabanan.

LEGIAN BEACH

High tide at Legian Beach can give you some of the most power-packed beach breaks in the world. Always bigger than Kuta, although it usually closes-out on low tide, especially if the swell is over eight feet. Because Legian Beach is in the curve of the beach, it collects the compressed energy of all swells. If Kuta is only 3 foot, sometimes Legian Beach can be magnificent at 4 to 6 foot. A sometimes Legian Beach can be magnificent at 4 to 6 foot. A handy hint is that Kuta Reef is often about the same size as Legian. A hot crew of young locals surf here regularly, so smile and be friendly to enjoy your sessions here. The first semi-permanent sandbank is at Jalan Melasti, near the Legian Beach Hotel. Jalan Padma, near the Bali Padma Hotel, often has the best waves, with lefts and rights on opposite banks paddling to wards each other for 100 meters, then joining up right on the beach. About 200 meters further north, near the Kuta Palace Hotel is the Sari beach break. After that the beach just keeps stretching to wards the mountains with more variable beach breaks that are usually quite un crowded. This area seems best on small swells.
